Mark 9:2-4, 7 – “After 6 days Jesus took Peter, James, and John with him and led them up a high mountain where they were all alone. There he was transfigured before them. His clothes became dazzling white, whiter than anyone in the world could bleach them. And there appeared before them Elijah and Moses, who were talking with Jesus. Then a cloud appeared and enveloped them, and a voice came from the cloud: “This is my Son, whom I love. Listen to him!”
Imagine you were living in the days when Jesus lived here on earth with us. Further, imagine that you had been invited to go up the mountain with him and there, experienced the transfiguration spoken of in this passage.
Now, set aside that Jesus ordered his disciples not to tell others what happened on the mountain. If you were asked – how would you explain it?
Do you think you’d be believed? Or is it more likely that your friends or family would think you were a bit crazy?
You see, for believers, things happen regularly that are hard to explain. In my own situation, I was, for many years living an out of control lifestyle. From my late teens until my late 20’s alcohol was getting the best of me. Then, on my 30th birthday, I stopped drinking and have not had a drink in nearly 25 years.
Unexplainable. Except for God.
Ask my friends and family that knew me then and still know me today. They can’t explain it. They’d never seen anyone whose life was transformed like that.
I did not spend a lot of time in AA or support groups. I simply asked Jesus to help me and he did.
More than just help – he fixed the thing that was broken and the problem was solved.
Can you think of one area of your life that needs to be fixed? Perhaps you’ve tried everything you can think of and still, the problem exists. My suggestion is that you ask Jesus. Just understand that when he solves it for you that it may be difficult to explain to others.
If you’d like to know more about this concept and how to apply it to your life, I recommend this book from Pastor Don Cousins. You’ll find Unexplainable: Pursuing a Life Only God Can Make Possible at Amazon.
