Genesis 1:1-3 – In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. And God said “let there be light, “ and there was light.
Have you ever considered how small – how finite we are compared to God? We are simply no match for him. As his creation, we can only marvel at his power and majesty.
I remember one time having a bit of an electrical issue with one of my lamps. Since it was dark outside it seemed a good idea to resolve the issue so that we could see as we navigated the rooms of the house. When I got to the point I felt I was ready – I strode to the switch and boldly declared “let there be light.”
There was light but lots of laughter too. Mocking might be more like it. The general point of their ribbing was to remind me that when God said it, something miraculous happened.
I share the story to illustrate how small we really are in the universe God created and where we currently reside.
This week has provided a spectacular reminder to all Americans as we’ve watched the power of a single tropical system as it devastated an entire region with wind and rain and flooding.
It’s been reported that in only 5 days 11 trillion gallons of water has come into the Houston TX region and all anyone can do is wait for the water to recede. I heard a report last night saying that what took 5 days to come down may take up to 3 weeks to go away.
Over the last few years, I’ve become much more aligned with the fact that he is God and I am not. In that, I celebrate. I hope you will too.
And then pray for the people in Texas. While they need resources and both the public and government are working to provide them, God, with one word can help anyone who needs him to and often, even though we don’t deserve it, will help us specifically and directly.
Praise God – worship him and remember, we’re here for that reason and God wants all of us to get to know him. Not the religious version of him you may have been told about – but the real him. He’s real you know and you were made in his image. Celebrate today!
