Proverbs 3:5-6 – “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him and he will make your paths straight.”
All of our lives we’ve been taught about trust. Trust your parents. Trust the people at your church. Trust the policeman. Trust the government. On an on it goes.
Many of us have lived long enough to develop trust issues with these and many other things we’ve been asked to believe in and now find it hard to do so.
When we look at our money (at least those in the US), it tells us something much closer to the truth. It says: “In God We Trust.” In my experience, God is the only thing that we can really trust.
Stories abound of parents, whom from a place of trust, hurt their children. Church leaders, satisfying their “flesh”, have abused people who were entrusted to their care. Police sometimes look the other way and instead of bringing justice, we find they are no better than the criminals they are supposed to protect us from. The government we depend on to provide protection and essential services, get’s caught up in politics and serves only a small percentage of its constituents.
In this, we lose heart. We lose trust.
Today, I want to reassure you. You can trust in God. He’s got a plan for our lives and it’s a good plan. You are his child and he created you with a purpose in mind.
His plan for you is so unique that if you fail to do what he made you for, it may never be done. When life causes you to lose trust in the things you’ve been asked to believe in, turn to the one thing that never changes. His word, as found in the Bible. It’s true and you can take that to the bank!
